Financial Fair Play: K-H Rummenigge (ECA) wants to fight the excesses of the transfer market

"It is important for the ECA to try, along with with FIFA and UEFA and with FIFPro, to work on the foolish development of the transfer market, on the criteria used, to try and make everything more rational," said Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, the head of FC Bayern Munich (Bundesliga) and the current chairman of the ECA, on 30/08/2017.

"Today, there are signs of will in Brussels (European Commission headquarters) to address this issue, which is why I support a joint initiative," the football leader said in an interview to the German magazine Kicker. According to Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, new, more restrictive legislation would not violate the community principle of free movement of capital.

Transfers to the Top 5 European countries (England, Spain, Germany, Italy, and France) exceeded the €5bn mark in 2017, according to a study by the Football Observatory at the University of Neuchâtel (SUI). This amount has doubled in five years (see chart below).
