Qatar 2022: 44 Nepali workers died in two months on construction sites, according to The Guardian

At least 44 Nepalese workers, employed on construction sites of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar have died between the 04/06/2013 and the 08/08/2013, according to the British newspaper The Guardian, on the 25/09/2013, who obtained the documents from the Nepalese in Doha (QAT).

These workers, often young, have been victims of heart attacks, heart failure or work accidents.

According to the investigation, forced labour, non-payment of wages and confiscation of passports are common practices for the construction of the 2022 World Cup infrastructure. Workers say they do not have access to free drinking water, even as they work in temperatures sometimes exceeding 50 ° C.

Nepal's Ambassador in Doha described Qatar as an "open jail". Thirty workers have found refuge in the embassy.
