"159 Indian workers have died in Qatar since the beginning of 2013, including 27 only for the month of August," said New Delhi's embassy in Doha on the 27/09/2013. "237 were killed in 2012," added the Indian diplomatic mission in Qatar, which does not specify the cause of death.

Nearly 1,500 Indian workers complained about their working conditions or documentation problems during the first five months of 2013, or from January to May.

At least 44 Nepalese workers employed on projects sites of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar have died between the 04/06/2013 and the 08/08/2013, said the British newspaper The Guardian, on the 25/09/2013.

  • According to the International Trade Union Confederation, the number of deaths on construction sites in Qatar could reach 600 per year.
    • Approximately 500,000 workers, mainly from Nepal, India and Sri Lanka are expected to join the emirate to build stadiums and all the infrastructure, directly or indirectly planned, for the 2022 World Cup.
    • Qatar has 1.2 million migrant workers for a total population of 1.9 million.
