South Africa: Danny Jordaan elected new president of the Federation

Danny Jordaan has been elected president of SAFA (South African Football Association), on the 28/09/2013. The Federation's former vice-president (from 2010 to July 2013) obtained 162 votes against 68 for Mandla Mazibuko.

The elections were organised by the IEC (Independent Electoral Commission) and supervised by members of FIFA (Federation Internationale de Football Association), CAF (Confederation of African Football) and SASCOC (South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee).

Danny Jordaan was SAFA's managing director, from 1997 to 2001 and from 2006 to 2010, playing the role of organiser in chief for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. He takes over Kirsten Nematandani, in office since the 27/09/2009, which was not candidate to his own succession.

The South African has set goals to improve the performance of the national selection, develop youth football, strengthen women's football and secure the financial position of the South African Federation.
