"Football is a sport that has had the courage to take the bull by the horns and face the challenge of rises in discriminatory behaviour, and without the legislative, judicial and political support of state authorities, our efforts would be in vain," said Michel Platini, President of UEFA (Union of European Football Associations), in Geneva (SWI) on the 07/10/2013.

"In football and in everyday life, we are doing much more than simply combating racism. We are fighting discrimination in all its forms," said the UEFA president who participated in a day of discussion on racism in football, organised by the United Nations High Commission for Human Rights.

Before his speech, Michel Platini has attended a meeting with South African Navanethem Pillay, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, at a working group during which was discussed cooperation between UEFA and the United Nations.

The next days of Champions League and Europa League, from the 22/10 to the 24/10/2013, will highlight the fight against racism, in the context of the week of action organised by FARE (Football against Racism in…
