Sporting fraud: Javier Tebas (Spanish LFP) demands lifetime ban for match-fixers

"Anyone who is involved - a player, a coach, a referee or a director of a team - in manipulating the result at any point of a game should be given a lifetime ban," said Javier Tebas, president of the Spanish LFP ( Professional Football League) at the "Leaders in Football" conference, held at the headquarters of Chelsea (Premier League, ENG), on the 09 and 10/10/2013.

The president of the Spanish Liga also believes that the failure to report a match-fixing approach should result in a three-year ban. "If we do not eradicate it in time it will become lawless like the Wild West," he said.

Asked about the ongoing investigation on the match Levante - Deportivo La Coruna (31th day of Liga in 2012/13, 0-4, on the 13/04/2013), opened after the sporting fraud charges brought by a player from Levante, the president of the LFP said "8 to 10 matches in Spain's top divisions are suspected to have been rigged in recent seasons, but much more have been subjects to an attempt of manipulation."
