Rugby: the economic impact of the 2023 World Cup in France estimated at between €1.9bn and €2.4bn

Deloitte France, the French office of the American audit and advisory firm, has assessed the potential economic impact of the 2023 Rugby World Cup at between €1.9bn and €2.4bn, according to the study conducted for France's bid for the competition, published on 17/05/2017 and updated on 15/11/2017, the day of the awarding of the Rugby World Cup to France.

France won the right to organise the 2023 World Cup by decision of the World Rugby Council, who met in London (United Kingdom) on 15/11/2017. France won with 24 votes to 15 for South Africa. In the first round of voting, France had 18 votes, South Africa 13, and Ireland 8. "France will therefore host the largest rugby event in the world for the second time (after the 2007 edition), 200 years after William Webb Ellis gave birth to the sport," said the international federation on 15/11/2017.
