Brazil 2014: Egypt reassure FIFA over safety before Egypt-Ghana 2nd leg in November

"We want to make sure that all the rumors spread by foreign media about turmoil in Egypt are totally false," said the EFA (Egyptian Football Association) in a letter to Jerome Valcke, FIFA Secretary General (Federation Internationale de Football Association), on the 12/10/2013.

The Egyptian Federation was responding to a letter sent by the Secretary General of FIFA, on the 10/10/2013. Valcke was asking the EFA for guarantees over security in Egypt, regarding the World Cup 2014 (Africa zone) match between Egypt and Ghana. The GFA (Ghana Football Association) has asked FIFA to intervene, fearing for the safety of its players and its fans. The match is to be held in Cairo on the 19/11/2013.

"While we sincerely hope that the security situation in Egypt returns to normal, we need to consider other alternatives for this event. We will monitor the situation very closely", wrote Jerome Valcke on the 10/10/2013.
