Puma breaks its partnership with South African Federation for ethical reasons

The German sporting goods company Puma has terminated its sponsorship with SAFA (South African Federation of Football), on the 17/10/2013. The decision was taken after allegations of match-fixing against the Federation. FIFA (Federation Internationale de Football Association) showed "conclusively" in December 2012 that warm-up matches in South Africa, in preparation for the 2010 World Cup, had been fixed.

The South African government established a committee of independent judicial inquiry to investigate these irregularities, in April 2013. "After the accusations of match-fixing against which the SAFA has not provided appropriate response, Puma has terminated the contract with immediate effect," said the sports equipment company, on the 17/10/2013.
