Global Transfer Market Report: 15,624 international transfers in 2017 for a total of €5.1bn (FIFA)

Clubs spent $6.37bn (€5.1bn) in compensation for international transfers in 2017, a record 32.7% increase, according to the 2018 Global Transfer Market Report, published by FIFA on 30/01/2018. This study, by FIFA TMS, a platform that records international transfers, pointed out that 67.4% of the total - more than two-thirds - involved only 50 clubs from 13 national federations.

"A new record was set with 15,624 international transfers, 6.8% more than in 2016, involving 13,415 players of 181 different nationalities," added FIFA. These 15,624 cross-border movements involved 3,831 clubs (of which 1,815 / 47.4% were UEFA-affiliated) and 179 of the 211 national member federations of FIFA.

Only 15.8% of the transfers involved compensation, said the international federation.
