FIFA: 2013 report on the fight against match-fixing considered a success

FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) are considering their fight against match-fixing for the year 2013 a success, indicated German Ralf Mutschke, Director of Security for the international body, on the 25/11/2013.

"We are seeing more and more positive reactions. The first signs of success are beginning to appear. People are contacting us," said Ralf Mutschke. "We are also receiving more quality reports via our hotline. We will only have sustainable success if it becomes the rule that players and officials report attempts by the world of organised crime to recruit them," he added.

Conducted in collaboration with Interpol, the integrity initiative now has 145 member associations. During 2013, the FIFA Disciplinary Committee extended 267 sanctions imposed by national associations.

The goal is prevention, and educating associations. Seminars are organised, a training programme is available online, and "Train the trainers" courses are also available. "Our goal is to ensure that 90% of our associations are involved in the initiative by the end of next year," says Ralf…
