Brazil 2014: cost of stadiums increases by 12% compared to 2012 forecast

The budget for the 12 host stadiums of the Brazil 2014 World Cup has increased by 12.6% compared to forecasts made in 2012, according to a report by the Brazilian Ministry of Sports, published on the 25/11/2013. The budget has increased from €2.28 billion to €2.55 billion.

The budget increase is attributed to the additional costs incurred for the Brasilia, Rio de Janeiro, Manaus and Cuiaba stadiums.

Apart from the stadiums, Brazil must also finish significant work on urban infrastructure, chiefly the expansion of airports. Some transport infrastructure, which will not be ready for the competition, will be delivered shortly after the 2014 World Cup, announced Aldo Rebelo, Brazilian Sports Minister, on the 29/10/2013.

In total, the Brazilian government will have committed eight billion euro of expenditure for the organisation of the XX World Cup, held from the 12/06 to 13/07/2014.
