"Goal-line technology has been accepted by the International Board* and it’s my duty to think about it. Goal line technology will be used in the World Cup. I accept this technology, always provided it doesn’t mean the machines take over the work of the referees. That’s why I’m willing to study the introduction of goal-line technology for the 2016 European Championships, but along with five referees a game," said Michel Platini, president of UEFA (Union of European Football Associations), on the 04/12/2013.

"For the same reason I prefer talking in person to talking on the phone. I firmly believe the eyes of a referee can see things a machine can’t," the UEFA president added, in an interview with Spanish daily AS.

"I didn’t open up to goal-line technology because after that you might have technology for penalties, off-side and so on. In France they brought in technology in rugby and it was a disaster. Every so often you have to stop the match, to see what the referee says and it often isn’t the same as what the video says. It’s an utter disaster," said Platini.
