Premiership Rugby: 1.9 million spectators in total in 2017-18, 158,656 per club and 14,423 per match

The total attendance of the 2017-18 Aviva Premiership was 1,903,869 spectators, according to data provided by Premiership Rugby, the organising body of the English rugby first division. The total attendance is down 4.9% compared to in 2016-17 (2,001,696). Each of the 12 clubs drew an average of 158,656 spectators over the 2017-18 season. The average attendance per game was 14,423 for each of the 135 matches.

Leicester Tigers were the club with the best attendance of the season with 251,667 spectators at Welford Road stadium (25,849 capacity), a stable figure from 2016-17. This gives an average attendance of 22,879 spectators for each of the club's 11 home games (average fill rate: 88%). The Sale Sharks brought up the rear with an average of 6,274 spectators at the AJ Bell Stadium (12,000 capacity) for an average fill rate of 52.8%.

In comparison, the Top 14 posted 2,397,301 spectators for the 2017-18 regular season, an average of 13,172 per game, a stable figure compared to in 2016-17, according to the LNR on 04/07/2018. The Pro D2 posted an average of 5,266 spectators per game…
