Rugby: HSBC to replace NatWest (RBS) as title sponsor of the Six Nations 2019 (The Guardian)

The British bank HSBC has obtained the naming rights for the Six Nations rugby tournament from the 2019 edition, according the British newspaper The Guardian, on 21/10/2018. HSBC is already the title sponsor of the World Rugby Sevens Series until 2023 (see below).

The Scottish bank RBS (Royal Bank of Scotland) had extended its naming agreement for the Six Nations for one year, until the 2018 edition, on 08/11/2017. The 2018 tournament was named the "NatWest 6 Nations", named after its subsidiary, NatWest (National Westminster Bank).

RBS was to extend its Six Nations naming rights agreement for the 2018-2024 cycle, according to the British newspaper The Times, on 11/10/2017. The Irish company Six Nations Rugby Limited, organiser of the tournament, announced on 03/06/2016, that RBS, title sponsor of the competition since 2003, would not be extending its rights at the end of the 2017 edition.

RBS paid £11m (€12.4m on 08/11/2017) per season to Six Nations Rugby Limited for the naming rights of the "RBS 6 Nations" over the 2013-2017 period. According to the Times, the bank had made…
