Value of global premium sports broadcast rights to rise by 14% to €19.3bn in 2014 (Deloitte)

The value of premium sports broadcast rights worldwide will reach £ 16bn in 2014, or about € 19.3bn, according to a report by the UK office of audit and consulting firm Deloitte, published on the 03/01/2014.

This rise of 14% or £ 2.9 billion (€ 3.5 billion) compared to 2013, is primarily driven by new audiovisual contracts to be signed by the Premier League, Bundesliga and the MLB (Major League Baseball, USA and Canada).

The annual growth in sports TV rights worldwide was 5% on average over the period 2009-2013, according to Deloitte, which at the beginning of 2013, had expected a growth of 4% for 2014. "We see no signs that the premium sports rights value bubble is about to burst, rights fees for live content to premium properties overall will continue to grow," said Austin Houlihan, senior consultant in the "Sports Business Group" at Deloitte UK.
