EFL: Sky extends TV rights until 2024 despite the wishes of 21 of the 24 Sky Bet Championship clubs

Sky and the English Football League (EFL) have announced the extension of the pay-TV group's broadcasting rights in the United Kingdom for the competitions organised by the EFL (Sky Bet Championship, Sky Bet League One, Sky Bet League Two and the Carabao Cup) over the 2019-2014 cycle, on 19/11/2018. The value of the agreement is £119m (€134m) per season, an increase of 35% compared to the 2015-2019 cycle.

The two entities had previously announced a similar agreement on 12/09/2017. A majority of Sky Bet Championship clubs then voted against it and threatened to split the EFL, as the agreement was too long and not profitable enough.

According to the BBC, "21 out of the 24 Championship clubs wanted the EFL to ask Sky for more time, or even negotiate a shorter contract, to allow some of the issues - amount of money being paid, the number of times clubs are on TV, the mass streaming of midweek games - to be sorted out."
