Scotland: European Commission to focus on land deals between Celtic and Glasgow City

The European Commission has opened a preliminary investigation on land deals between the City of Glasgow (Scotland) and Celtic (Scottish Premiership), on the 08/01/2014.

As part of a Europe-wide investigation into state aid in sport, the Commission will investigate in particular the sale by the City of Glasgow of several lands around Celtic Park (60,000 seats). The European body will determine whether these transactions constitute illegal state aid, and violate Article 107 of the Treaty on Functioning of the European Union (see below).
