FC Internazionale Milano (Serie A TIM) has launched a communication campaign to combat racism, entitled "BUU - Brothers Universally United", on 18/01/2019. The acronym "BUU" was chosen to oppose the onomatopoeic "buu" used in Italy to designate racist songs in stadiums.

The Lega Serie A Disciplinary Commission decided on 27/12/2018 to impose a penalty of two home matches to be played behind closed doors against Inter Milan at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza following the events that occurred during the game versus SSC Napoli (1-0, Matchday 18) on 26/12/2018. The Milan club was sanctioned following "offensive songs of a racist nature towards Kalidou Koulibaly (a Senegalese defender for Napoli)" and "insulting songs of a territorial nature" against the opposing club's supporters, which occured during the match. In addition to these incidents, an Inter fan died after being injured in clashes between groups of supporters of the two clubs near the San Siro before the match.
