Spain: the league wants €40m for the rights to broadcast highlights of Liga matches

The Spanish LFP (Professional Football League) wants domestic broadcasters to pay for the right to broadcast highlights and match summaries for Liga BBVA and Liga Adelante, the first and second Spanish divisions, according to U.S. economic media outlet Bloomberg on 18/02/2014, based on an email sent by Javier Tebas, president of the Spanish League.

The LFP are negotiating with the Spanish government for an amendment to the legislation, which allows national broadcasters to freely distribute the hihglights of the Spanish championships. Javier Tebas assessed the value of these rights to be worth €40m.

The new Spanish legislation for TV rights, which would also include a limitation ratio of 1 to 4 (against 1 to 6.5 currently) on the income gap for audiovisual rights received by La Liga clubs, should be passed by the end of 2014 for application in 2015.
