Bayern Munich: Uli Hoeness, sentenced to three and half years in prison resigns and will not appeal

Uli Hoeness decided not to appeal his conviction and resigned from his post as president of FC Bayern Munich (Bundesliga) and chairman of the supervisory board of FC Bayern Munich AG, on 14/03/2014. The German leader was sentenced to three and half years in prison "for seven serious cases of tax fraud" by the court of Munich on 13/03/2014.

"I have instructed my legal representatives not to appeal the verdict. This corresponds to my understanding of integrity, decorum and personal responsibility. Evading tax was the biggest mistake of my life. I accept the consequences of this mistake," said Uli Hoeness on 14/03/2014.

At the opening of his trial on 10/03/2014, Uli Hoeness admitted having hidden €18.5m in undeclared accounts in Switzerland to avoid paying taxes. Prosecutors in Munich had requested five and a half years in prison, accusing him of actually having concealed more than €27m.
