Brazil 2014: German League and football federation to demand FIFA a better redistribution

The German League and football federation requested a larger share of income of the 2014 World Cup from FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) on 11/03/2014.

"Given the revenue potential of the World Cup, there is scope to improve the redistribution," said Reinhard Rauball, president of the DFL (German Football League). "These are the players of clubs that provide the economic success of the World Cup."

"National federations should receive a greater proportion of income, it is very clear," said Helmut Sandrock, general secretary of the DFB (German Federation football). "Especially since it is primarily the 13 European teams qualified for the World Cup that are the greatest draw card."

All 32 teams participating in the XX World Cup (in Brazil from 12/06 to 13/07/2014) will share a total allocation of $358m (€258m).

Compensation to clubs:

  • The executive committee of FIFA set aside $70m (€51.5m), the gross amount "before taxes and deductions" that will be shared by the clubs who own the 736 participants in the final stage (32 teams 23 players) during the two years…
