Rugby: Sky New Zealand extends its All Blacks TV rights, and the NZ Rugby acquires 5% of Sky

Sky New Zealand is extending, for New Zealand, its TV rights to rugby competitions involving New Zealand rugby teams for five years (2021-2025) with SANZAAR (South Africa New Zealand Australian Argentinian Rugby, a consortium that manages professional rugby in the southern hemisphere), according to the subsidiary of the British telecommunications group Sky on 14/10/2019.

"The broadcast rights include exclusive coverage of all Investec Rugby Championship, Steinlager Series (European club tour in New Zealand), Investec Super Rugby, Mitre 10 Cup and all New Zealand's other domestic competitions, including women's competitions. It will see New Zealand Rugby becoming a 5% shareholder in Sky," said the telecommunications group.

The value of the agreement is estimated at NZ$400 (€228m) according to New Zealand media reports. Sky New Zealand had previously extended its All Blacks rights for five years (2016-2020) on 24/10/2014.
