"The K-League (South Korean football league) has decided to temporarily postpone the start of the 2020 K-League season until the spread of the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) outbreak eases" in order to "protect the health and safety of the citizens and our players," announced the organising body on 24/02/2020.

Coronavirus (Covid-19) first appeared in Wuhan (China) in December 2019, and has led to nearly 80,000 people being infected and the death of more than 2,600 as of 25/02/2020. South Korea has reported nearly 900 cases of infection and eight deaths as of 25/02/2020, making it the worst affected country by Coronavirus outside China. The outbreak has already led to a series of postponements or cancellations of sporting events (see below).

The J-League, the Japanese football league, has postponed seven cup matches scheduled for 25/02/2020, "to prevent clusters of the new coronavirus from further spreading," said the body on the same day. The J-League has also postponed the first three matchdays of the league, covering all matches that were scheduled until 15/03/2020.
