David Haigh announced his resignation as managing director of Leeds United (Championship, English 2nd division) on 10/04/2014. The resignation follows the acquisition of a 75% stake in Leeds United by Massimo Cellino on 31/01/2014. The new Italian owner indicated that David Haigh would not occupy a major role in the re-organised club on 10/4/2014.

"Owing to various statements made by and on behalf of the new majority owners of Leeds United FC, I am left with no alternative than to resign as managing director of the club", said David Haigh.

David Haigh was behind the purchase of the club by GFH, an investment company based in Dubai, in December 2012. He became the managing director in July 2013, following the departure of Shaun Harvey.

  • Leeds United rank 16th in Championship after 42 days, but totals 50 seasons at the highest level. They recorded a loss of approximately €1.2 million per month, according to BBC Sport.
