Bundesliga: DFL and Sky Deutschland reach a compromise for the payment of TV rights (German media)

The German Football League (DFL) and the pay-TV operator Sky Deutschland, the main broadcaster of the Bundesliga and the 2.Bundesliga (in its entirety) in Germany, have reached a compromise for the payment of the fourth and final installment of the TV rights amounting to €225m (approximately €900m in total for the 2019-20 season), according to information via the website of the German daily newspaper Bild on 16/04/2020.

Sky Deutschland will pay a slightly lower amount than planned but will pay the money earlier in return. The Bundesliga and the 2.Bundesliga have been suspended due to the Covid-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic since 17/03/2020, and no major mass gathering events will be permitted in Germany until 31/08/2020 (which does not prevent matches being played behind closed doors).

The German public audiovisual groups ARD (match highlights rights) and ZDF (rights to six free-to-air matches) are also expected to pay their final installments (around €40m), while negotiations between the DFL and the OTT platform DAZN (rights to 40 matches per season) for the payment of their final…
