Sport betting allows organised crime to launder $140bn (€102bn) annually, and 80% of bets are taken through illegal outlets and websites, according to the 2012-2014 study from the Research Programme on Ethics and Sport Security of the University of Paris 1 - Panthéon-Sorbonne (France), in partnership with the ICSS (International Centre for Sport Security), released on 15/05/2014.

The document, entitled "Protecting the Integrity of Sport Competition: The Last Bet for Modern Sport" was presented as part of the Sport Integrity Forum organised by La Sorbonne and ICSS in Paris (France) on 15/05/2014, in collaboration with UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation) and the Council of Europe.

The 700-page report analyses in depth the extent and range of sport fraud today and the markets for sport betting and illegal betting. It also suggests a series of measures for prevention and to fight more effectively against sport fraud, directed at athletes and referees, at judicial and sport bodies, and at sport betting operators.
