Concerning a potential candidacy by the United States to host the 2026 World Cup, "maybe, we’ll bid ... we’re not going to bid unless the rules of the game are changed," said Sunil Gulati, 53, president of the USSF (U.S. Soccer Federation) and a member of the Executive Committee of FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) on 21/05/2014.

"The regulations for candidates must change; I already said that in front of the executive committee and I still believe it," said Gulati.

The United States hosted the World Cup in 1994. It was bidding to host the 2022 edition, which was awarded to Qatar on 02/12/2010.

"The technical reports need to mean more” and "there should be public disclosure of votes. There is no reason -- and the IOC (International Olympic Committee) has changed this -- that all of the federation presidents visit the country to see if there is an airport, etc. It is not normal to have a custom of gifts; there must be limits," said the president of the American federation.

Beginning with the 2026 World Cup, the FIFA Congress will choose the host country
