Financial fair play: Sums withheld by UEFA from sanctioned clubs will be redistributed

The money withheld from clubs that were sanctioned for non-compliance of financial fair play will not be retained by UEFA (Union of European Football Associations), but will rather be redistributed, an UEFA source told News Tank on 22/05/2014.

Paris Saint-Germain (Ligue 1) and Manchester City (Premier League) each agreed to withholdings of €60m in the settlement agreements they signed on 16/05/2014 with the CFCB (Club Financial Control Body of UEFA) Investigatory Chamber: €10m for this season, €10m for next season, and €40m if the other penalties are not respected (limits on debt, salaries and recruitment).

The total withholdings for all sanctioned clubs is €140.8m in agreements signed 16/05/2014 (see list below), but €90m of this is conditional and will be withheld for non-respect of other penalties.

UEFA has not yet determined to whom these amounts will be redistributed and according to what criteria. Will the beneficiaries be other clubs in European Cups? Or clubs that operate in the national championships of the sanctioned clubs (France, England, Russia, Turkey and Bulgaria)…
