Only six of the 12 World Cup stadiums have at least one Brazilian Serie A club in 2014. The cities of Brasilia, Manaus, Fortaleza, Cuiaba, Natal and Recife do not have teams playing in Serie A. The club Sport Recife was promoted in 2014, but they are not a resident club of the Arena Pernambuco (Recife, capacity 42,300), which was built for the 2014 World Cup.

CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation) spread the placement of stadiums so as to promote different states. The question of the profitability and future of these club-less facilities remains: "It would have been much more reasonable [to concentrate stadiums in the large southern cities]," said economist Bastien Drut, speaking to News Tank on 22/05/2014. "One can also question the legitimacy of FIFA requirements regarding stadiums ... Why require billions of dollars of public money be spent, while the standard of living in Brazil, as in South Africa, is still far from Western standards?"
