On 27/05/2014 a court in Daruvar, Croatia, ordered UEFA (Union of European Football Associations) to pay €100,000 in damages to the Croatian referee Bruno Maric, who was wrongly suspected of rigging a match.

The referee was charged by Robin Boksic, an UEFA investigator who has since been fired, with rigging the 2009 Croatian National Cup final (Dinamo Zagreb - Hajduk Split, 0-3, 3-0, 4-3 on penalties).

Maric filed a complaint against UEFA in 2011, claiming €1m in damages for threats, coercion and abuse of power that had, he said, caused "psychic suffering".

According to Vladimir Gredelj, Maric's lawyer, UEFA proposed a settlement of €10,000, but the referee refused. Bruno Maric is appealing the 27/05/2014 judgement to ask for greater damages.
