Qatar 2022: Sunday Times reports new corruption allegations against federations' presidents

New charges of corruption in host selection for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar were issued by the British newsweekly The Sunday Times on 01/06/2014. Qatari Mohamed bin Hammam, a former member of the executive committee of FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association), was reported to have paid $5m (€3.7m) to obtain the support of federation presidents for the Qatari bid.

The Sunday Times claimed to have "thousands of documents" proving the existence of these payments. Jim Boyce (Northern Ireland), vice-president of FIFA, said he did not exclude the possibility of a new vote if these claims are true, in speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live (of the British Broadcasting Corporation).

Michael Garcia (USA), the president of the FIFA Ethics Committee's Investigatory Chamber, is currently conducting investigations on the conditions for awarding the 2018 World Cup to Russia and the 2022 to Qatar. He is to meet with the Qatari organising committee in the Sultanate of Oman on 02/06/2014.
