FIFPro (International Federation of Professional Footballers) set up a committee for professional women players on 12/05/2014. This committee, composed of seven members, aims to meet the growing needs of professional women's football.

"Minimum salaries, the definition of a professional female player, health and safety standards are just some of the questions we find in need of attention," said Caroline Jönsson, former Swedish international goalkeeper (80 caps), who was appointed chair of the committee.

"Participation rates are growing, placing a greater demand for a professional pathway," added Jönsson. "Players should have a much greater influence in all of the domains related to women's football."

There are 2,039 professional women players in Europe, UEFA (Union of European Football Associations) said in its 2013-14 report entitled "Women's Wootball Across the National Associations."
