Safety inspectors approved the use of the temporary stands for the opening of the World Cup (Brazil-Croatia, 12/06/2014), said Fast Engenharia, the subcontractor responsible for their installation, on 06/06/2014. Only the cleaning remains to be done, the company said.

Use of the temporary stands had been banned in the last test match (Corinthians-Botafogo 1-1, on 01/06/2014), played in front of 37,119 spectators in the stadium, which has a total capacity of 68,500. Three days before the start of the competition, workers were still on the job, completing electrical installations and flooring.

"When you are dealing with an event as big as the World Cup there is no way for you to put a diploma on the wall saying you are ready," said Aldo Rebelo, Brazilian Sports Minister on 05/06/2014.

  • On strike since 05/06/2014, Sao Paulo metro employees voted to suspend the strike on 09/06/2014.
    • The Corinthians Arena is located on the outskirts of Sao Paulo. Access to the stadium is mainly by metro.
    • Metro employees have been demanding a wage increase of 12.2%; the government is proposing 8.7%
