2014 Brazil: FIFA Anti-Discrimination Days held during quarter-finals

"Every year the FIFA Anti-Discrimination Days take place at one of FIFA’s competitions to raise awareness of the need to eradicate racism and other forms of discrimination from football. Because of its impact, particularly through the influence of players on the younger generations, football can play an important role in this quest," said Jérôme Valcke, secretary general of FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association), on 03/07/2014.

"Since the 2002, the quarter-finals of the World Cup have been dedicated to raising awareness of the need to eradicate racism and all forms of discrimination from football," FIFA stated.

"There will be a special pre-match protocol; team captains will read declarations against discrimination. Then the teams and referees will come together at the centre circle, and show a message demonstrating football’s stance against discrimination," indicated Jérôme Valcke.
