Brazil 2014: World Cup expected to inject €10bn into Brazilian economy

The 2014 World Cup in Brazil (from 12/06 to 13/07/2014) is expected to inject 30bn reais (€9.95bn) into the Brazilian economy, according to a study conducted by the Economic Research Institute Foundation (FIPE) in Brazil and commissioned by the Brazilian tourism ministry; it was published on 07/07/2014.

The Brazilian government estimated the total cost of investments "undertaken by authorities and other entities linked to the World Cup" at 25.6bn reais (€8.5bn), including €2.5bn just for the construction and renovation of the 12 stadiums of the World Cup. The other investments were in transportation, tourism infrastructure, security and telecommunications.

910,000 jobs were created due to the hosting of the World Cup, of which 710,000 are permanent. This represents 15% of the 4.8m jobs created since the election of Dilma Rousseff in 2010, according to the study.
