Brazil-Germany (1-7), the first semi-final of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil (from 12/06 to 13/07/2014), was watched on average by 32.57m viewers [aged three and up] on German public TV channel ZDF, from the 22:00 CET kickoff to 23:55 CET on 08/07/2014. This figure represents an 87.8% audience share and approximately 40% of the total population in Germany (81m inhabitants). ZDF recorded a peak of 33.86m viewers.

This is a new ratings record for German TV. The previous record dated back to the semi-final of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa: Spain-Germany (1-0) in Durban on 07/07/2010. The fixture attracted on average 31.1m viewers.

In Brazil, the Brazil-Germany semi-final, whose kickoff was at 17:00 local time, did not break TV ratings records. The preliminary numbers gave 34 points to Globo, the country's main free private TV channel, in Sao Paulo and its greater urban area. This score represents 2.21m viewers in the economic capital of Brazil, and an audience share of 65%. These numbers are similar to those of other fixtures played by the Seleçao during the 2014 World Cup.
