2014 World Cup: Second-best total attendance in history, with 3,429,873 spectators

3,429,873 spectators watched the 64 fixtures of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil (from 12/06 to 13/07/2014), for an average of 53,592 spectators per game, said FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) on 13/07/2014.

The 12 stadiums of the 2014 World Cup had an average fill rate of 98.36%. In total, 51,886 seats went empty, or 810 on average per game.

This was the second-best total attendance in the history of the World Cup, behind the 1994 World Cup in the United States, which had both the highest total attendance (3,587,538) and the highest average attendance (68,991 spectators per game).

The Argentina-Bosnia and Herzegovina fixture (2-1, group phase, on 15/06/2014) and the Germany-Argentina final (1-0 aet, on 13/07/2014), both played at the Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, achieved the highest attendances of the competition with 74,738 spectators for each (tickets were sold out).
