Brazil 2014: 166,772 Argentines made up largest contingent of foreign tourists (16.7%)

166,772 Argentines travelled to Brazil during the 2014 World Cup (from 12/06 to 13/07/2014), which represents 16.7% of the total number of foreign visitors (approximately 1m) and the largest contingent of foreigners, said the Brazilian Ministry of Tourism on 17/07/2014.

Of the total number of foreign tourists that travelled to Brazil, 696,320 (69.6%) came from 15 South American, North American and European countries: 364,092 came from seven South American countries (36% of the total foreign tourists), 180,331 came from six European countries (18%) and 151,897 came from North America (15%).

Out of a total of 3,056,397 Brazilian tourists (from a total population of 201m), 858,825 (28%) came from the state of Sao Paulo (the most-represented state), said the Brazilian Ministry of Tourism.

  • 364,092 tourists from seven South American countries travelled to Brazil for the tournament, or 36% of foreign tourists:

    • 52,427 Chileans (5.2%)
    • 49,246 Colombians (4.9%)
    • 35,018 Uruguay (3.5%)
    • 21,084 Peruvians (2.1%)
