"Football is a macho sport and it is still a challenge to ensure women are represented on the game's governing bodies," said Joseph Blatter, president of FIFA (Federation Internationale de Football Association), on 04/08/2014, during the Women's U-20 World Cup in Canada (from 05 to 24/08/2014).

"One day hopefully there will be a female FIFA President and all that will change," said the 77-year-old Swiss. "But as of now, we have one full female member (Lydia Nsekera) and two co-opted women members (Moya Dodd et Sonia Bien-Aime) in FIFA's executive committee. I am a staunch advocate of women's football," added Joseph Blatter.

"Canada (host country of the Women's 2015 World Cup) has the chance to show the whole world just how good a host it can be for FIFA competitions," said Joseph Blatter, in response to a possible Canadian candidacy for the 2026 World Cup. "Under our continental rotation system, the tournament will now be being held in Europe and then Asia, after which we will be able to go back to Africa or the Americas, particularly North America," said the FIFA president.
