Financial Fair Play: "It is not as easy for UEFA as it looks" (Arsene Wenger)

"If you kick a club like PSG [Paris Saint-Germain, Ligue 1] out tomorrow because they don’t respect FFP [financial fair play rules], the French TV companies will go to UEFA (Union of European Football Associations) and say: ‘Look, we want our money back.’ It is not as easy for UEFA as it looks at the start," said Arsene Wenger (FRA), the manager of Arsenal FC (Premier League) on 07/08/2014.

Wenger doubts the ability of UEFA to enforce financial fair play against the richest and most-watched European teams. "UEFA has lost power because of Europe, because you can have alternatives to go to court outside of UEFA and not everybody accepts the decisions from UEFA, so UEFA has to be a bit cautious as well because of television’s financial power," he said.

In 2013-14, Paris Saint-Germain (Ligue 1) and Manchester City (Premier League) each accepted the withholding of €60m in the settlement agreement they signed on 16/05/2014 with the CFCB (Club Financial Control Body of UEFA) investigatory chamber: €10m for 2013-14, €10m for 2014-15 and €40m if other sanctions are not respected (limits on…
