Mohammed Ben Sulayem (UAE), 60, has been elected president of the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) with 61.62% of the votes at the body's general assembly held in Paris (FRA) on 17/12/2021.

The Emirati was opposed to Graham Stoker (UK), the FIA's deputy president for sport until the election, and thus becomes the first non-European president of the body since its creation in 1904. He succeeds Frenchman Jean Todt who held the position since 23/10/2009 and had served three terms, the maximum allowed by the FIA regulations.

"Mohammed Ben Sulayem, president of the Emirates Motorsports Organisation (EMSO) since 2005, was FIA World Motor Sport Council vice president for Middle East. Former rally driver, he was 14-time FIA Middle East Rally Champion, winning 61 international events from 1983 to 2002. He campaigned under the banner 'FIA for Members', committing to double motor sport participation worldwide, strengthen diversity and inclusion and be a leading opinion-former on sustainable mobility," said the FIA.
