Manchester United: tablets and laptops banned from Old Trafford "for security reasons"

Manchester United (Premier League) banned tablets and laptops from the stands of Old Trafford (capacity 75,731) for "security reasons", said the club on 13/08/2014. Smartphones, cameras and other electronic devices are still authorised in the stadium as long as their dimensions do not exceed 15cm in length and 10cm in width.

The club indicated that this decision followed the security measures introduced in British and American airports regarding electronic devices since July 2014: passengers must show that their equipment is not fake by using them during security checks.

"The structure of the stadium and the massive influx of spectators on matchdays make it impossible to do the same (in Old Trafford)", explained the Manchester club. "The regulations at each stadium are a matter for the relevant stadium management authorities; however, the scale of Old Trafford and profile of Manchester United mean that the risk at this venue is unique," added Manchester United.
