Germany: 36 professional clubs pay nearly €1bn in taxes in 2013-14

The 36 professional German clubs, from Bundesliga 1 and 2 (the first and second German divisions), will pay the state nearly €1bn in taxes in 2013-14, said the German press on 06/08/2014.

In 2012-13, the amount reached €851m: €712m for the 18 Bundesliga clubs and €139m for the 18 2.Bundesliga clubs. Bayern Munich, which made a turnover of €393.9m in 2012-13 (excluding the Allianz Arena and subsidiaries), paid €132m in taxes for that year: €57.2m in social and employer contributions, as well as €74.8m in corporate tax, VAT and business tax.

The 18 Bundesliga clubs made a record cumulated turnover of €2.17bn in 2012-13 (€120.5m on average per club). This is the ninth consecutive year during which the turnover of the German league established a new record.

The 18 2.Bundesliga clubs, the second German division, made a record cumulated turnover of €419.4m (a turnover similar to the Dutch Eredivisie), a 9.1% increase compared to 2011-12. The cumulated turnover of the two professional German divisions reached €2.59bn in 2012-13.
