England/TV rights: High Court orders PPTV (China) to pay $213m to the Premier League

"The Premier League welcomes the judgment handed down by the High Court today relating to non-payment of fees by PPLive, its former broadcast partner in China. The Premier League will robustly enforce its contractual rights when it has no other option available. The League will now begin the process of recovering the fees and costs owed by PPLive," announced the English League on 11/01/2022.

With this decision, the Premier League is awarded just under $213m (€187.5m), plus interest and costs, following the termination of its contract in China with PPTV, a Chinese internet and mobile streaming platform and subsidiary of the heavily indebted Chinese conglomerate Suning, according to British media reports. If the payments due, including those resulting from this judgement, are paid by PPTV, the Premier League will have received a total of about $575m (€506m) from PPTV, or more than 80% of the total value of the contract, according to British media.
