UEFA: Disciplinary proceedings against Legia Warszawa for illegal banner and setting off fireworks

"Disciplinary proceedings have been opened against Legia Warszawa (Poland) for an illicit banner, setting off of fireworks and insufficient organisation," said UEFA (Union of European Football Associations) on 01/09/2014. The UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body will meet on 04/09/2014 to deal with the issue.

The supporters of Legia Warszawa used a banner to address UEFA (with a slogan "Because football doesn't matter. Money does") during the fixture against the Kazakh team Aktobe (2-0, 2014-15 Europa League second leg playoff game), on 28/08/2014.

The fans protested against Legia Warszawa's elimination in the third qualifying round of the 2014-15 Champions League. Legia Warszawa won its two fixtures against Celtic Glasgow (4-1, 0-2) yet UEFA awarded, on 08/08/2014, a 3-0 victory to Celtic for the return leg on 06/08/2014. Legia Warszawa had lined up, for a few minutes, a suspended player. UEFA's decision enabled Celtic Glasgow to qualify for the playoffs of the Champions League.
