Ebola virus: FIFA joins United Nations in fight against the epidemic in Liberia

The Antoinette Tubman Stadium in Monrovia (Liberia), which FIFA (International Football Federation) had donated to the Liberian Federation, will be used by emergency treatment units to treat people infected with Ebola virus, announced the international body on 16/09/2014.

The WHO (World Health Organization) has chosen this field "as the most suitable location in terms of effectiveness and safety" to treat patients with Ebola.

“The Ebola outbreak also has a tremendous impact on the sport community, ranging from health threats to the athletes themselves and restrictions of travel affecting competitions and the development of sport. National authorities, the UN and the world of sport need to work closely together in order to halt the spread of the disease," said Wilfried Lemke, Special Adviser to the Secretary-General of the United Nations on Sport for Development and Peace.
