The Premier League has suspended its broadcasting contract with the Russian pay-TV group Match TV (owned by Gazprom Media), which was due to broadcast the English league from the 2022-23 season, according to the BBC website on 09/06/2022.

Match TV acquired the full and exclusive broadcasting rights to the English league for the 2022-2028 cycle on 23/07/2021. The rights were acquired for an estimated £43m (€50m) over six years (€8.3m per season).

The Russian broadcasting rights to the Premier League for the 2019-2022 cycle were held by Russian search engine Rambler Media (for its Okko streaming platform) for an estimated €7m per year.

The Premier League and its clubs decided to suspend the broadcasting agreement with Rambler with immediate effect and to donate £1m (€1.2m) in support of the Ukrainian people on 08/03/2022. At the same time as the Premier League, the English Football League (EFL) also announced that it would suspend the broadcast of its matches in Russia, via the iFollow streaming service and club platforms.
