Premier League: Liverpool City Council's Planning Committee validates Anfield expansion plans

Liverpool City Council's Planning Committee validated the expansion plans of Anfield (capacity 45,500) proposed by the owner of the stadium, Liverpool FC (Barclays Premier League), the club announced on 23/09/2014.

The city granted the construction permit for the redevelopment of the Main Stand, which will increase from a capacity of 12,600 to 21,000. The resolution, which was approved unanimously by the members of the Municipal Council, is subject to conditions and legal agreement, explained the club.

"This is a very important milestone in our ambitions to transform the Anfield area, bringing new jobs, investment and housing. The overall regeneration will see £260m (€330m) invested in Anfield. Liverpool FC's proposals for the stadium are a key part of this. The club is a major employer in the area and its stadium is a major draw for tourists and visitors," said Joe Anderson, the mayor of Liverpool.
