FIFA: Executive Committee renews the Club Protection Programme for 2015-2018, budgets €100m (+20%)

The FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) Executive Committee has approved the renewal of the Club Protection Programme (CPP) for the full 2015-2018 cycle, the international body stated after the FIFA Executive Committee meeting in Zurich (SUI) on 25/09 and 26/09/2014.

The CPP is a programme designed to compensate clubs when players they employ are injured on international duty. The cost of the programme for this cycle is estimated at $120m (or €100m). Additionally, women's international 'A' matches will now also be covered for the first time.

  • The amount budgeted to the 2015-2018 CPP will increase by 20% compared to the previous cycle (2012-2015), during which $100m (approximately €80m) were allotted.

€27m paid to clubs via CPP in 2013

  • 80 CPP cases were documented in FIFA's 2013 financial report.
  • 98% of the €27m paid went to clubs in Europe:
    • €26.4m went to clubs in Europe
    • €400,000 went to clubs in North and Central America
    • €100,000 went to clubs in Africa
    • €100,000 went to clubs in Asia
    • Nothing was paid to clubs in South America or Oceania
